Sun Valley

Sun Valley was formed in the early 2000s in Port Chalmers, New Zealand—the visionary collaboration between David Haines, Michael Morley and Joyce Hinterding is joined in 2026 by Maelyse Leculier. Past members have also included Torben Tilly and Rosy Parlane, NZ. A collective of close friends, all with a shared interest in performing and recording sound at the edges of the world.

Sun Valley Transforms environments into otherworldly, sci-fi soundscapes. Their pioneering performance work, Black Canyons, 2016 (Haines, Morley, Hinterding), blended field recordings from the Blue Mountains with electromagnetic frequencies, guitar, synthesis, and striking visuals to reveal the hidden sensory depth in our world. Black Canyons premiered and was commissioned by Campbelltown Arts Centre, NSW, Australia.

Sun Valley has engaged in various sound experiments over the years, including live performance and recording, from relatively spontaneous open-ended soundings, including software programming in Processing, to electro-acoustic and improvised noise structures, video performances, electromagnetic waves and radio. Selected performances have included Dunedin City Gallery, Christchurch Art Gallery, MCA Sydney, and Campbelltown Art Gallery.
